Will the World End in 2012? by Raymond C. Hundley, Ph.D.

In light of the growing fascination with the year 2012 and the idea of the end of the world, Dr. Hundley examines ten of the most popular doomsday predictions. In neatly organized chapters, he tells a brief story about each prediction before explaining them and sharing arguments against them. Each chapter concludes with his assessment of the validity of the predictions. The final two chapters of the book provide applications for the information learned, both to non Christians and Christians respectively.

Dr. Hundley makes it clear in the introduction that he is a Christian but will remain objective in his assessments, of which he does a pretty good job. However, I found three things lacking in the book: One, the chapters were too short and lacked depth. I was left wanting to know more. Two, in the first half of the book it appeared that Raymond was critiquing Joseph E. Lawrence instead of examining end of the world scenarios. Third, I felt Dr. Hundley’s research, in some cases, inadequate.

For a summary of the end of the world predictions, and for a resource for further study on this subject, Dr. Hundley’s book is good. That it is a quick  and easy read is an extra bonus. Overall all, I would rate this book a 2 ½ out of 5.
